The timing was right. San Francisco's overachieving landscape, residential and commercial architect and interior, furniture and textile designer would be perfect to review a trade show where more than half of the attendees are interior designers and architects. Such luck that Diaz-Azcuy, whose qualifications and personal style on the floor of the huge Javits Center would be instantly recognized, said yes. (It was no small convenience that he has an apartment and office across from United Nations Plaza.)
Post-ICFF, Diaz-Azcuy, San Francisco's Cuba-born owner of a thriving international design business, offered these final words: "The entire show was good and varied, and Northern California was well represented. I encourage designers and manufacturers to participate in the future."
The ICFF - International Contemporary Furniture Fair is an exhibition that presents products and services in categories such as: seating, contemporary furniture, lighting, carpet and flooring, materials, outdoor furniture, accessories, wall coverings, kitchen and bath for commercial and residential interiors and textiles.
Furniture dealer Asian Art Imports fuses a rustic aesthetic with a contemporary style. They take advantage of recycled woods, scraps, leftover tree roots from Asia and transform them into striking pieces of furniture. The Stitch chair, below, uses recycled acacia wood and forms a Bauhaus-inspired style chair. The cabinets are made of different scraps of wood and are laminated together in an interlocking pattern.
The North American platform for International design, ICFF took over the Jacob K. Javits Center May 16-19, 2015, to present an array of exclusive custom international furniture, unique materials, high end kitchen and bath designs, novel concepts in residential, commercial and hospitality space lighting, luxury stone and wood custom flooring to apply to your next design challenge.

KGBL designs and produces a line of handcrafted American furniture which can be seen at our showroom on the top floor of The New York Design Center, the industry\u2019s premier resource for fine furnishings, located at 200 Lexington Avenue . The line, built in our shop in Brooklyn, is unapologetically modern but executed in materials and utilizing methods associated with older levels of craftsmanship. Working in fumed white oak, silicon bronze and Pyrex, to cite a few examples, KGBL fashions sophisticated pieces that employ marquetry, leather molding and precious metal plating techniques. The showroom is open to the public.

While Mr. Paganakis's fantasy furniture is guaranteed to charm his audience, entertainment was emphatically not the order of the day at this year's show. Furniture that is calculated to bring a smile does not usually sustain the long-term style statement its designers aim to achieve.
"I don't want to make a piece of furniture that's so hot for six months that it's only hot for six months," says Rouse, whose small company also gained from exposure at the ICFF. "We're already bidding on jobs [from the show]."
According to several designers exhibiting at the fair, creating furniture that is both evocative enough artistically to gain attention and solid enough to take constant use is the paramount goal. At its best, contemporary furniture is art that connects directly to people's lives because they use it every day.
